Why have we changed our name
The name Southern Transformers better reflects who we are today.
Over many years, our business has become known for specialist transformer manufacturing, practical technical advice and reliable supply for industrial and commercial customers. We are an Australian transformer manufacturer specialising in LV & MV dry-type transformers, with in-house design, manufacturing and testing from our Melbourne facility.
Our work includes 3 phase transformers, isolation transformers, step down transformers, auto-transformers, single phase transformers, data centre transformers and LV/MV transformer solutions.
The new name makes that focus clearer. It tells customers exactly what we do, while staying true to the business we have built over decades.
What has not changed
The important things remain the same.
We are still committed to manufacturing excellent products. We are still focused on quality, compliance, long-term reliability and practical service. We still believe customers should be able to speak directly with people who understand transformer design, technical specifications, lead times and real-world operating conditions.

A short company snapshot
Southern Transformers in south-east Melbourne. In 1972, the business moved from garage production into a factory in Japaddy Street, Mordialloc, where it continued to grow as a specialist transformer manufacturer.
Since then, we have supplied transformers, chokes and other wound componentry to customers across Australia and overseas. Our company history includes products being used in more than 85 countries, including Australian research bases in Antarctica.
Today, we continue to design purpose-built transformer solutions with power ratings up to 750kVA. We have also continued to invest in our people, our equipment and our manufacturing capacity. In 2024 to 2025, we doubled our manufacturing footprint by securing a second factory next door, giving us more room to build, test and deliver Australian-made transformer solutions.

Our product range includes 3 Phase Isolation Transformers, 3 Phase Step Down Transformers, 3 Phase Step-up Transformers, Single Phase Transformers, Split Phase Transformers, Custom Transformer Solutions and Data Centre Transformers.
We also support custom requirements where a standard product is not the right fit. That may include voltage conversion for imported machinery, site-specific isolation requirements, dry-type transformer builds, LV/MV transformer solutions or other custom wound components.
